2030/2040 prospective tourism study for the Aquitaine region with a specific focus on seaside and coastal tourism – Aquitaine
Key Service: Project Studies
Location: Aquitaine
Product: Project Studies
Office: France
Location: Aquitaine region, France
Project outline:
Horwath HTL was contracted to carry out a prospective analysis of tourism development in Aquitaine, primarily for the coastal region, taking into account environmental factors (receding coastline, erosion, destruction of forests, impact on urban development, etc.).
The project had two main objectives:
- To enable the Regional Council to target, in an innovative manner, its tourism development support policy, in close coordination with other policies on environmental and social development and on the management and control of environmental challenges
- To provide the administration of the Aquitaine coastal region, and of each local area within it, with the conceptual and operational tools for overcoming the challenges inherent in requalifying and adapting their current offerings
Solution and implementation proposed by Horwath HTL:
Horwath HTL identified different problems applicable to different time scales:
- long-term social changes and technological breakthroughs — 2040
- both short- and long-term management of the region and sustainability planning — 2020
- short-term emergencies and problems to be resolved — 2011
Project status: Two action plans were developed based on the different possible scenarios and elected officials (one for the entire region and one just for the coastal area).
